About Ron

As my domain name implies, my name is Ron. I am 49 years old, very happily married for 26 years and I have two children, one in college and one recently graduated from college and married. I have degrees in political science and religion. I am also a committed Christian and my political views flow naturally from my religious convictions.
I am a conservative. I do not view the Constitution as a living document. As Justice Antonin Scalia said, “I defend a dead Constitution.” Any document that is “living” is a document that means whatever you want it to mean. If the Constitution means anything, it means what the words in it say, nothing more and nothing less. So I do not believe in substantive due process. I think the commerce clause has been stretched beyond recognition. I think you have to be delusional to find abortion in the Constitution.
My posts will be decidedly conservative from an evangelical Christian perspective. I will almost always take issue with liberal ideals and positions. I find the Democrat party as it exists today to be mainly about demagoguery rather than about what is best for this country. I think the Democrat leadership, by and large, are willing to sacrifice the good of the country for the chance to regain the White House because they believe that the ONLY good thing for this country in the end is for them to be in power.
I think liberals HATE George Bush. They believe he stole the 2000 and 2004 elections, therefore he is not a legitimate president. I think they will do anything to undermine him no matter the cost to the nation. If that means more soldiers die, they can live with that. If that means another terrorist attack, they can live with that.
As for the Republican Party, I am disillusioned at best. The actions of Republicans in the House and Senate prior to the mid-term elections were anything but conservative. Presiding over the largest expansion of the federal government since LBJ is what cost them the election, not Iraq.
Since the elections the Republican Party has shown very little understanding of what actually happened. They continue to blame their loses on Bush and Iraq. While both played their part, neither could have done the job. Republicans have, by and large, abandoned conservatism, that is the problem.
I have been accused of being a Bush apologist. Nothing could be further from the truth. Indeed, Bush has been a disappointment to me. Other than tackling terrorism, lowering taxes and taking a pro life stand, Bush has been a big government politician. While the initial war to take Iraq was a huge success, the subsequent effort to restore order has been a dismal failure and it has taken Bush far to long to make adjustments. Not only has that cost the lives of American soldiers, it contributes greatly to Democrat efforts today.
So now you have a bit of an idea as to where I’m coming from. Obviously not everyone, whether Christian or not, will agree with my views. While I am not interested in doing battle with everyone who thinks I’m an idiot, I am willing to engage in conversation with those who submit thoughtful comments, whether agreeing or disagreeing with me. I do not insist on agreement but I do insist on civility if you expect to engage me in conversation. If you flame me, don’t expect a response.
I intend to use these pages to talk about political/faith subjects I consider important. We are entering the presidential campaign season and there are many critical issues at stake. I certainly don’t expect to convert everyone who reads what I have to say. I do, however, hope to stimulate thinking.
I can be reached via email here. I do not intend, however, to engage in extended private debates. If you want to take issue with something I say in a post, that’s fair game but I intend to keep it on the blog, not private. That’s what the comments section is for. My comments are public, you comments should be too.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. There are plenty of other ways you could spend your time and I’m honored that you spent some of it here.
Thanks,
Ron
