What Now?
14 February 2008I said in my last post that there is something conservatives can do. Rush talked about it on Wednesday. It’s really straight forward and it should be obvious except people are so focused on the presidential primaries. Here it is. Work to elect real conservative Republicans to Congress and your state legislatures.
I know, it sounds too simple. But here’s why it’s the best thing to do.
Regardless of who is elected President, they will lead this country down the wrong road. The only way to stop that is to have a Republican majority in Congress. But having the majority won’t do any good if many in that majority are RINOs. They must be conservatives. If we elect true conservatives then McCain, Obama or Clinton will not be able to implement their wacky agendas. It’s really that simple.
None of the current crop of presidential contenders has the ability to do rally the people to his or her cause. Obama comes the closest but that’s only because the people have no idea what his agenda really is.
From now until the elections in November, conservatives must work tirelessly to promote, encourage and elect conservatives. And as important as it is to do so in Congress, it is equally important to do the same in state legislatures. After all, that’s where you start on the way to Congress. We need a solid crop of conservatives preparing to run for Congress in the future. People who’ve developed their political skills in the halls of state legislatures.
Folks, we didn’t get into this mess overnight and we’re not going to fix it overnight. But fix it we can if we pull together and do what is necessary. With hard work we can retake the GOP. We can once again make it the bastion of conservatism that is ought to be. This country is too great to let it go. But make no mistake, if we aren’t willing to do the work, we will lose it. This country is great because of its great ideals and people. If we lose those ideas and the people willing to work to implement and defend them, this country will cease to be great. We simply cannot allow that to happen.
