A Stroke of Genius

1 January 2008

Amidst all the attacks against Mike Huckabee coming from the right has been the accusation that Huckabee just isn’t up to the job of being President.  But he pulled off a stroke of genius in the last few days.  I’m referring to Huckabee’s negative ad that isn’t.

In an email to supporters Huckabee told about his trip back to Arkansas to make a few campaign ads, one of which was a negative ad against Mitt Romney.  Huckabee has been accused lately of going negative when all he’s been doing is defending himself against  slew of negative ads run by Romney.  And in the middle of that, Huckabee announced that he would not run the negative ad he made.

That was truly a stroke of genius because it allows Huckabee to have his cake and eat it too!  He is sticking to his promise not to run negative ads while still making sure the negative information gets out.  Not that Romney isn’t doing a good enough job of that himself.  With his onslaught of negative and dishonest ads Romney has invited responses that can only hurt him.  And in the process Romney’s money gets more and better exposure for Huckabee.  In the last few days Huckabee has been all over the news programs defending himself against Romney and Romney has been largely ignored.

Meanwhile, the latest polls have Huckabee leading in Iowa, demonstrating just why Romney feels the need to go on the attack.  With less than two days to go, Romney is running scared and Huckabee continues to move up in the polls.

Stay tuned for more on the Iowa caucus.
