I'm not "anti-immigration," I'm "anti-breaking-the-law." I can't count the number of times lately I've heard so-called conservatives say "I like so-and-so because he's 'anti-immigration.'" They equate illegal immigrants with legal. The fellow Graham refers to may not have been an immigrant at all, we don't know. But the issue certainly isn't nationality. It is legal status. Are you here legally or not. I am so tired of this attempt define those of us who want to secure our borders as bigots and racists. We are not. We simply want to live in a country where the law actually means something. The demagoguery of President Bush and Lindsey Graham does not change the truth. Just like all of the other immigrants that have come here over the years, newcomers need to show that they are able to care for themselves and their families financially, that they are able to contribute to our society, and that they are free from contagious diseases.
