Duke Lacrosse Players Innocent!
11 April 2007Commentators expected a statement that there was not enough evidence to prosecute the case. Instead, the AG said:
We believe these cases were a result of a tragic rush to accuse and failure to verify serious allegations. Based on the significant inconsistencies in the evidence and the various accounts given by the accusing witness, we believe these three individuals are innocent of these charges.
Not exonerated, innocent! Cooper called Nifong a rogue prosecutor. For his part, Nifong faces serious ethics charges with the state bar association. Based on Coopers comments in today’s press conference it seems likely that Nifong will be disbarred. And with the use the word innocent and the ferocity of the AG’s remarks, Nifong could face criminal charges and perhaps even civil prosecution for wrongful prosecution.
For nearly a year it has seemed clear to most observers that all the evidence said the three Duke Lacrosse players were innocent. Yet Nifong continued with the prosecution, apparently, to boost his reelection bid. While his tactic worked in terms of the election, it ruined the lives of these three Duke students and ultimately ruined Nifong’s life as well.
As far as I’m concerned, this is a great day for justice.

between Imus and these Duke fellows, it’s been an unexpected and interesting week for liberals in this country. The AG’s comments were particularly surprising. I just hope someone seriously goes after the throats of the race-hustling thugs who perpetuated this crap. Nifong is not the only one who should lose his head. Where is O’Reilly on this? He ought to be kicking Sharpton’s door down demanding an explanation. And is that stripper’s sob-story seriously going to have her off-the-hook for the devastation she caused these kids and their families? There was justice on one side anyway…

Well, the AG seemed to think the accuser has some sort of mental problems but she has done this before and as far as I’m concerned, she should not be allowed to ever do it again.
While there were certainly many on FOX News at least, who supported the Lacrosse players, there were many more who condemned them all along. To say nothing of the 80 some odd Duke faculty members who signed that disgusting letter. All of them should pay a price.
The presumption of innocence in this country is out the door where ever race is involved. That is a sad commentary on our times. While the current events in Durham may work to mitigate that, the Imus mess reinforces it. Sharpton, et. al. have succeeded in getting Imus kicked off MSNBC and they claim his radio show is next. Where will that end?

I heard a caller on O’Reilly’s show today making a claim that we shouldn’t assume the boys are innocent until it’s proven that they are. He thinks we should wait to hear about the pregnancy test before we think they are innocent. Whoever was filling in for Bill should have been all over him for this presumption of guilt until innocence is proven! But he wasn’t. He just kept trying to offer proof that the boys are indeed innocent.

Some people will never be convinced. The evidence can’t be bothered with. The AG said there was no evidence that any sort of attack ever happened. He said the boys were innocent. We all knew that already. But it took the NC AG several months to go through the evidence and come to the same conclusion.
