Election Day 2006
7 November 2006
Election day is here. The ads have done what they could do. It’s now too late for any surprises to effect the election. Now it’s time to go to the polls. I expect most people who would take the time to read this blog will be motivated enough to go vote. At least I hope so. Of course, if you are a liberal reading this blog you know I hope you’ll stay home. At any rate, all that is left for any of us to do is go vote.
Many pundits are predicting that come Wednesday we will not know who has control of either house of Congress and that it may be weeks before we do know. Some predicted the same thing in 2004 presidential election and it didn’t happen. But all of us remember 2000 and how long it took to find out who the President elect was. Either way, there is every reason to believe that tonight will be a very long night. I plan to stick with the election returns all night and, of course, we’re planning an election night chat about the returns.
Sooner or later there will be winners and there will be losers. One party or the other will have control of each house of Congress. Until now the focus has been on who should lead and why. After today the focus shifts to who will lead and what can we expect. Over the next days and weeks you can expect me to have much to say on that topic, which ever party ends up in control. And while I am working to ensure that party is the Republican party, I have serious reservations about where my party will go should they prevail today. So stay tuned, it should be an interesting ride.
