Peace for the Middle East?

13 July 2006

You’d have to be living in a cave somewhere to miss that Israel is at war.  After years of tolerating terrorist attacks, negotiating with kidnappers and appeasing the rest of the world, it appears Israel has had enough.

But over at Daily Kos another idea has been floated:

Muslims, Jews, and Christians could live in peace without fear of mutual destruction.
There would be no more need for US AID or justification for Dimona.
We could bring down the Wall, send prisoners home, and families could be reunited.
We could dismantle checkpoints, open crossings, and pull down barbed wire fences.
There would be no more settlements or armed settlers because the people would be united.
We could replant trees and olive groves and rebuild battered cities.
No more suicide bombers or sniper fire, and no more dead civilians.
No more targeted killings and hell-fire missiles, or systematic demolitions.
Palestinians and Jews could live together and the world could address other issues.
What a simpler place this world would be
if there was no need for a Jewish majority – where there would otherwise be none.
Is it so hard to imagine?

Huh?  A Jewish majority?  Where, pray tell, outside Israel, is there a Jewish majority?  And why on earth would there NOT be a majority of citizens in ANY country?

I confess I simply do not understand this kind of thinking.  There is one thing and one thing only that is driving events in the middle east and that is Muslim hatred of Jews and the state of Israel.  Whether Jews are a majority or a minority is irrelevant to Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the “Palestinians.”  As long as the Jews exist, these people will seek to destroy them.

This is not mere idle speculation or my humble opinion.  The mullahs and leaders in these countries and throughout the region have said so on numerous occasions.  If you doubt it just spend a little time at Palestinian Media Watch.  If you think the rhetoric in western media from Muslims throughout the region is strong, you won’t believe what they have to say on the own TV networks.

And make no mistake, the US specifically and western nations generally are also targets.  We’ve been described as the Great Satan on many occasions.

Whether realized or not, what has been advocated at the Daily Kos amounts to the destruction of Israel and all of western society.
